K-State ASI To Host Open House Activities on April 6
Plan to attend these activities hosted by the K-State ASI organizations and units during the All-University Open House.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State University All-University Open House will be Saturday, April 6 with activities across campus going on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI), including the Food Science Institute, will host several activities throughout the day.
A highlight of Open House each year is the Little American Royal (LAR) hosted in Weber Arena. LAR is a livestock showmanship contest hosted by the Block & Bridle and Dairy Science clubs in which students exhibit animals from the university farm units. The 94th Little American Royal Showmanship Contest will kick off at 10 a.m. for the last time in historic Weber Arena. Watch K-State students show goats, sheep, dairy heifers, beef heifers and horses. There will also be a presentation of scholarships sponsored by the Kansas Dairy Commission and the American Royal.
During the contest, shop at multiple departmental vending booths including Collegiate Cattlewomen and Block & Bridle, learn more about the interaction between animal agriculture and food with the Food Science Club, check out personal growth opportunities with Sigma Alpha Professional Sorority and Alpha Gama Rho Fraternity, and enjoy some Call Hall Ice Cream on the concourse of Weber Arena.
Finally, be sure to check out demos from the K-State Rodeo Club and the Sheep and Meat Goat Unit on Weber Lawn.
The Food Science Institute will be hosting several “Fun with Food Science” exhibits in Call Hall 156, including explore food safety, create a fun product, learn about color and pH changes in food.
The Rodeo Club and Food Science Club will have exhibits at the College of Ag Hub located on the south side of Waters Hall. The Rodeo Club will have roping demonstrations and lessons and the Food Science Club will have ice cream.
The Call Hall Dairy Bar will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be serving hot dogs and chips for $3 from 10 a.m. until they run out.Midwest Dairy will have a booth from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. attendees can participate in trivia games for dairy themed prizes and visit with an industry dairy farmer. The Dairy Bar will have its newest Call Hall flavor available — Cherry Choco Crunch. Be sure to try this perfect mash up of our Black Cherry and Vanilla Crunch Ice Creams, voted and approved by K-State President Richard Linton.
