Mycotoxins
Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by mold growth in feed ingredients. Although not all molds produce toxins, mycotoxins have a great economic impact in swine production because of the damage of feedstuffs and impairment of swine performance. The most significant mycotoxins affecting swine are aflatoxin, vomitoxin, zearalenone, fumonisin, and ochratoxin. These mycotoxins are produced by molds belonging to the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium.
