Sunflower meal
unflower meal is a by-product of oil extraction from sunflower seeds. Sunflower meal contains around 38% crude protein and 30% neutral detergent fiber if sunflower seeds are dehulled (NRC, 2012). Compared to soybean meal, sunflower meal contains lower crude protein, lower concentration of lysine, greater concentration of sulfur-containing amino acids, and greater fiber content. Sunflower meal is free of most anti-nutritional factors, but inclusion of sunflower meal in swine diets is limited by the high fiber content (González-Vega and Stein, 2012).
